What woke you up?

in march of 2014, i was a very active jw, a ministerial servant, gave a public talk, was an attendant for the memorial, and one of 4 cleaning captains for an international convention of 40,000+ attendees.

so what woke me up?

an innocent comment from a co-worker about the candice conti court case rang a bell that could not be unrung.

What did it to me was the organization's self worship. It took me a few years, during my adolescence, before I realized that it wasn't the "Truth" more because of their attitude than because of any doctrines. Had I possessed some of their old literature (I was beginning to build up a collection) I would have been out even earlier.

SafeAtHome, that illustration depicts an event that's supposed to occur after the Millennium where some of Paradise's people turn wicked and threaten those who are faithful.
The idea is based on this scripture from the book of Revelation:
7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. Revelation 20:7-9 New International Version
I remember seeing that illustration in two different places though I can't remember where. I think the image from the book that John Aquila took it from was recycled from some earlier literature. It does look 1960ish in it's artwork.
It's confusing because it mentions Gog and Magog which names are used in a different context in JW teaching.

okay, i don't even know where to start.

i'm 16, i live in a strict jw household and i know if i am pregnant (which is a big possibility) ..i know i'm doomed to a life of misery.

not because of my baby but because of my family and the isolation and judgement from the congregation.

Since the water canopy will be put back in place, with the inevitable greenhouse effect, it must be stifling hot in that sweater. In any case we're spared their nudity.

Some of them looked like hippies with those bands on their heads. The ones up front were also looking in every direction except that of the people (the faithful) they were supposed to have been attacking.

First President Of The Watchtower Society

i was reading on wikipedia about the watchtower society and it lists a william henry conley as the first president of the wt society (1881-1884).

i was wonder if this is correct and why the modern jw's have eliminated him from the societies history?

the only thing is the society was not incorporated till 1884 with russel as president.

Charles Russell may not have been the "first president" of the IBSA/JWs but he sure was the founder.

I knew an elder who was disfellowshipped three times. Twice for pharmaceutical drug abuse and once for adultery.
He was in my judicial committee.
